They gained fame during the American Civil War for service in the Union Army where they fought in 12 major battles, including the Battle of Antietam, one of the bloodiest battles of the war, as well as the Siege of Vicksburg, a major turning point in Union victory. See also their service in First and Second Battle of Bull Run, Battle 0f Chantilly, Battle of South Mountain, Battle of Fredericksburg, Battle of the Wilderness, Battle of Cold Harbor and the Siege of Petersburg. The Cameron Highlanders reformed at the end of the war in 1864 and fought their last engagement at the Battle of Spotsylvania Court House. A perfect choice for Civil War history buffs.
